The formulas
Filament cost = spool price ÷ grams on the spool × grams the print uses.
Electricity cost = watts ÷ 1,000 × print hours × price per kWh.
Length in meters = grams ÷ (density × cross-section area in mm²). A 1.75 mm filament has a cross-section of about 2.41 mm², so a meter of it holds about 2.41 cm³.
Where the numbers come from
The filament weight comes from your slicer, which reports it after slicing, supports and brim included.
Densities for the listed filaments are from Prusament's data sheets. Other brands differ slightly, so pick "Other" and enter the density from your filament's own data sheet for an exact figure.
Common questions
The label weight is the filament alone. At 1.24 g/cm³, 1 kg of 1.75 mm PLA is about 335 meters. Use the weight or length mode for other materials.
It depends on print time and power draw. The calculator shows filament and electricity separately, so you can see the split for your own printer.
Slicers estimate from the model and your settings. Weigh the finished part and its supports on a kitchen scale if you need the exact figure.
